The Society's Belief is in the dignity and worth of all people.
Mission
TDCSS is an association of people committed to the social, economic and environmental well being of all citizens of Northwestern British Columbia.
Objectives
- To plan, develop and deliver social and health care programs for communities within the Skeena Health Unit District.
- To support community involvement through participation with other agencies, societies and citizens.
- To act as an advocate for social and economic improvement throughout the region.
- To promote community awareness of social and health care issues.
- To work with federal and provincial health and welfare planning and fund raising organizations in order to achieve community based services.
History
- TDCSS began in 1970 as a Resource Board.
- January 1972, the committee polled the community to evaluate the effectiveness of existing services and project future needs. A directory of services was compiled as follows: Special Services to children, elderly, and handicapped; health education; recreational service clubs; and associations and churches. TDCSS was set up as a referral and information centre.
- On March 1, 1974, the Crisis Line opened and on November 1, 1974, the Society began Meals-On-Wheels and the Homemakers Service.
Board of Directors
This Society operates under the direction of an elected volunteer Board of Directors. The Board meets once a month and holds an Annual General Meeting in the fall of each year. This Board works very hard on the behalf of the Society and the Community at large. New members are always welcome!
Employees
The Society employs an Executive Director, Executive Administrative Assistant, a Finance Director and Accounting/Payroll staff to oversee the day-to-day administration of TDCSS. Approximately 150 people work for TDCSS in the various programs that are offered.
