About Us
Our mission is to provide a mentor to every child who needs one.
The program is dedicated to helping in the development of children. It matches children with pre-screened adult volunteers who provide friendship and support to children ages 6-13. Children who spend time with a mentor gain confidence, acquire new skills and competencies, and develop an enhanced capacity to care for others. Mentors experience a sense of discovery and enjoyment as they see the world of possibility open up through a child's eyes.
Programs
We currently have three main program areas;
- In- School Mentoring: Adults interact with children that are reverred by school personnel. Mentors spend one hour a week with thier buddy engaging in activities that help build a child's self-esteem.
- Community - Based Mentoring: Adult volunteers spend a few hours a week in the community with a child growing up in a single parent home, doing fun things that interst both the adult and child.
- Couples for Kids: This program is similar to the community based program; the only difference is that a couple is matched to a child.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and are all ages. There are no special skills required. Adults who have some time and a caring heart are always welcome. For more information about Mentoring go to www.bbbsc.ca/volunteers.
