Youth and Family Services

Services
We offer services to children and youth and their familes:
Special Services to Children
The client target group for this program is children up to 18 years of age.
The primary goal is to assist them with emotional/behavioural issues as well as social and life skills. Clients are referred to this program by the Ministry of Children & Family Development, Nisga'a Child & Family Services, NIFCS, Community Living Services, and Child and Youth Mental Health; or directly to Program Manager on a fee-for-service basis.
Life Skills
The Life Skills Program provides services to youth 15 to 18 years of age that are preparing to eventually live independently in the community. Services are provided in small groups and one-on-one. After the completion of goals, youth will be supported by staff for an additional 3 to 6 month period. Youth are referred to this program by the Ministry of Children & Family Development, Nisga'a Child & Family Services and Northwest Inter-Nations Family & Children Services.
Respite Home
The Respite home provides services to families who live in the Northwest. Care is provided for children ages birth to 18 years of age. This program typically provides respite services to families or caregivers upon referral from a Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSN) Social Worker. The number of days each child may utilize this program is determined by the CYSN Social Worker. Intake is ongoing and families that use the program are encouraged to attend an annual stakeholders open house to provide us with feedback and input into the service.
Parent Connection
This program is contingent on TDCSS funding and grants received from Ministry of Children & Family Development through Family Resource Programs of BC. The Parent Connection program operates in partnership with Kitsumkalum, Kitselas and Skeena Kalum Housing to offer a drop-in program for caregivers and children birth to 6 years of age. This program allows parents and caregivers to come together with their children to share ideas, resources, and experiences while building on skills, coping strategies, community supports, and education re: parenting, child development, household management, and personal skills.
• A light lunch is provided.
• Rides are provided upon request.
• Parent Connection is not offered during school holidays or summer break.
