Families with Child(ren) under 18 years of age

Special Services to Children and Families

The client target group for this program is children up to 18 years of age and parents or caregivers of children under 19 years of age.
The SSTC&F program is a program of Youth & Family Services, under the umbrella of TDCSS. TDCSS, a not for profit society holds to the philosophy of people committed to the social, economic, and environmental well being of all citizens of the Northwest.
SSTC&F includes both Family Development and Youth Development. The Family Development stream provides services to children, youth and families who are identified as needing support because of physical, social, behavioural, emotional, developmental and parenting skills needs. The Youth Development stream provides services to youth in care and/or youth who are connected to the MCFD through Youth Agreements; and youth who are disconnected from natural and community support systems and are engaging in risk taking behaviours.
Youth & Family Services develops an Individual Program Plan with the referral source, and each participant and/or family in the program based on the needs identified on individual referrals. The Program Plan must take into consideration the abilities, physical, social, emotional needs and the cultural and spiritual preferences of the child(ren), youth and family. Specific group service is arranged with stakeholders depending on the needs of the children, youth and/or families being referred.
The Special Services to Children and Families program and the Adolescent Health program jointly provide a weekly drop-in groups for male and female youth ages 12 to 18 years of age. More information regarding these groups can be found in the Adolescent Health program information.
The Case Manager coordinates and/or attends meetings for service reviews and initake, arranges and participates in case planning meetings, integrated case management meetings (ICM), individual education plan meetings (IEP) etc and organizes ta screening panel with team leaders from MCFD, School District, NCFS, NIFCSS and ACYMH to prioritize and waitlist referrals.  Individuals and or families are referred to this program by the Ministry of Children & Family Development (MCFD), Nisga'a Child & Family Services (NCFS), Northwest Inter-Nation Family and Community Services Society (NIFCS), and Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health (ACYMH); or directly to Program Manager on a fee-for-service basis.  The Program Manager meets with the Ministry of Children and Families Team Leader, the Guardianship team leader and the Child and Youth Mental Health Team on a monthly basis.

Life Skills
The Life Skills Program provides services to youth 15 to 18 years of age that are preparing to eventually live independently in the community. Services are provided in small groups and one-on-one. After the completion of goals, youth will be supported by staff for an additional 3 to 6 month period. Youth are referred to this program by the Ministry of Children & Family Development, Nisga'a Child & Family Services and Northwest Inter-Nations Family & Children Services.
Respite Home
The Respite home provides services to families who live in the Northwest. Care is provided for children ages birth to 18 years of age. This program typically provides respite services to families or caregivers upon referral from a Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSN) Social Worker. The number of days each child may utilize this program is determined by the CYSN Social Worker. Intake is ongoing and families that use the program are encouraged to attend an annual stakeholders open house to provide us with feedback and input into the service.
•Girls and Boys Youth Group
This free drop- in program provides services to youth ages 12 to 18 years. Transportation is available upon request. Permission forms and contact information must be completed prior to attendance. For more information call (250) 635 - 7087.
Outreach
This program provides services to youth who are disconnected from their families, community and natural support systems. Youth may access the service on their own or can be referred by MCFD, NCFS, NIFCSS, School District, RCMP, a family member or friend. The Outreach worker will work with the youth to assist them with accessing other services in an effort to increase their safety and connect them to various supports.
Youth Residential

The Halliwell Home is a licensed 6 bed home providing care for youth ages 12 to 18.
