Deana Gardner

I was born and raised in Terrace, BC and attended the Social Service Worker program at the Northwest Community College in 1998. In 2002, I moved with my family to Grande Prairie, AB where I worked as a support worker for the Grande Prairie and District Association for the Mentally Handicapped. At the same time, I also attended the Grande Prairie Regional College.

In 2004, my family and I moved back to Terrace. We missed the small town where people know each other, support each other, and are kind to each other. Also, the diversity of outdoor activities is important to me. I enjoy being outdoors, surrounded by nature.

I was hired at TDCSS in 2005. Over the years, I have worked as a casual employee, Support Worker, Supervisor, Goal Plan Facilitator, Relief Manager, and Manager.

Throughout my years with TDCSS, I continued taking courses and completed my Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Northern British Colombia in 2015. My initial intention was to leave TDCSS to work for the Government of BC, but by the time I finished my degree, I had changed my mind. I spent 10 years working in our Community Living Services program and realized that this is where my passion lies. Helping people with disabilities set goals, then using their strengths, gifts, and passions to meet these goals is quite rewarding.

I currently work as an Assistant Manager supporting all the programs offered at TDCSS, and I look forward to many more years serving our community.
