Position:        Family Support Worker

Support Services: Youth and Family Services Department

Hours:4-34hrs.  PART-TIME (presently, this position is 21 hours per week)

Shifts:DAYS,EVENINGS and WEEKENDS

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule – this position will be responsive to an emergent crisis as directed by the Funder and/orTDCSS

Summary:     

The Family Support Worker gathers information on and assesses family functioning problems.  Develops and implements intervention plans within program guidelines.  Providereferrals, support, guidance and problem solving to clients to address issuesrelated to family functioning.  Providesparenting skill building, emotional support and feedback to clients.

Supports are provided to persons’ served, either on an individual basis, or in the form of support to a family unit (biological, foster, other),   It will be imperative that the incumbent has the ability to relate to and build supportive relationships across all age groups, as well as an awareness of resources available within the community. Supports to individuals may take place in the office setting, within the community, as well as the persons’ served home(s).  TDCSS fosters an environment of continuous learning and a work culture of professional development. All employees of TDCSSare expected to participate in ongoing professional growth and development activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required:       

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related human / social service field

Experience

Required:       

  • One (1) recent related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Preferred:       

  • Experience in working with people with challenging and/or high-risk behaviors

Qualities
Required:       

  • Proven problem-solving ability
  • Ability to liaise with outside agencies
  • Self-motivated
  • Physical fitness level that meets the needs of the individuals
  • Ability to follow programs as set out by program supervisor
  • Ability to adapt to meet the clients’ emotional and developmental changes
  • Time management and organizational skills

Preferred:       

  • Creativity

Others Required:     

  • Demonstrated competency in written & verbal communication
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Vehicle with business insurance and the ability to provide transportation to people in the back seat
  • Ability to participate in a variety of recreational activities (swimming, skating, etc., on all shifts worked)
  • Proficiency in computer use
